TfS, Siemens pilot exchange of carbon footprint data / Aim to tackle scope 3 emissions
Together for Sustainability (TfS; www.tfs-initiative.com) and technology conglomerate Siemens (Munich; www.siemens.com) are collaborating on a pilot project to scale the exchange of product carbon footprint (PCF) data across the chemical industry. Learnings from the pilot will be deployed to TfS’s 47 members.

The project will leverage Siemen’s Sigreen tool to securely track and manage PCF data throughout the supply chain. Companies can combine the data with that from its own processes to determine carbon footprints, enabling them to take targeted reduction measures.
TfS president Bertrand Conquéret said, “Sigreen will equip us with the solution for embedding our PCF Guideline in operations at scale. This will enable us to tackle the chemical industry’s scope 3 challenge.” He added that the project is “a vital step and accelerator in driving decarbonisation across the chemical industry”.

Scope 3 emissions are those that a company is indirectly responsible for, up and down its value chain. According to professional services group Deloitte (London; www.deloitte.com), scope 3 emissions for many businesses account for more than 70% of their carbon footprint.
TfS launched its PCF Guideline in 2022. The document harmonises the different approaches used within the chemical industry to calculate carbon footprints.
