A 2,600 m2 storage hall owned by logistics provider Wim Bosman (Geleen / The Netherlands; www.wimbosman.nl) went up in flames at Chemelot Industrial Park (Geleen; www.chemelot.nl) on 9 November. Reports indicate that the plastic resin stored at the site was completely destroyed.
A preliminary investigation found that the fire erupted during works carried out on the hall’s roof. The company’s 20 workers were able to evacuate on time and no one was injured. The financial extent of the damages is not yet known, Plasteurope.com was told. The local fire brigade officially declared the blaze extinguished on Monday afternoon.
Geleen is home to many plastics activities, and players like DSM, Lanxess and Sabic operate lines here. Whether the fire will impact producers’ ability to supply remains unclear. A few days earlier, a fertiliser plant located in the same industry park also caught fire.
