CEREPLAST
First EVA and TPE starch hybrids introduced
Cereplast Italia, a subsidiary of Bioplastics compounder Cereplast (El Segundo, California / USA; www.cereplast.com) has expanded its “Hybrid” resins range to include “Hybrid 106D”, a high starch, high melt flow PP compound, as well as its first EVA starch hybrid resin, “Hybrid 651D”, and its first TPE starch hybrid resins, “Hybrid 111D” and “Hybrid 112D”.
Hybrid 106D is a PP and industrial starch blend that offers a combination of mechanical properties, ease of processing, and a highly aesthetic surface. Designed to offer a balance between impact strength, rigidity and processability, 106D also provides a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to conventional PP. It can be processed on existing conventional electric and hydraulic reciprocating screw injection moulding machines for the manufacture of consumer goods, furniture, toys, fashion accessories, packaging and automotive applications.
Hybrid 651D is a proprietary formulation of EVA and starch, which provides a tough, soft touch, pliable material developed for extrusions and soft injection mouldable applications for the manufacture of consumer goods and packaging, footwear, handbags and other fashion accessories, as well as wire and cable insulation, soft plastic goods such as tubes and hoses and adhesion layers for multi-layer films.
Hybrid 111D and Hybrid 112D are TPE starch hybrid compounds for injection moulding applications. Hybrid 111D includes 30% starch and Hybrid 112D has 50% starch, lowering the environmental impact of the material compared to conventional TPE. Both grades are soft and pliable, offering stretch with some recovery for soft grip applications such as handles for bicycles and tools, cosmetics packaging, housewares, household appliances, footwear and automotive applications.
