CEREPLAST
Distribution agreement with DMT Plasticolor for Croatian bioplastics market / Fourth major European deal this year
The momentum at which bioplastic compounds manufacturer Cereplast (El Segundo, California / USA; www.cereplast.com) is entering into new distribution agreements in Europe shows no signs of slowing. So far, the company has entered into three new partnerships in Italy, Romania and Poland – see Plasteurope.com of 31.01.2011, 24.01.2011 and 17.01.2011, respectively. Now Cereplast has signed yet another deal, with masterbatch and additives supplier DMT Plasticolor (Staro Cice, Velika Gorica / Croatia; www.dmt-plast.com), covering Croatia and the surrounding Adriatic countries.
Under the terms of the deal, DMT Plasticolor will become the exclusive distributor of Cereplast compostables and sustainables compounds in Croatia. In addition, the Croatian company will source 100 t of Cereplast’s "Compostable 3000" film grade each month to manufacture bioplastic film suited for food packaging.
According to Cereplast CEO Frederic Scheer, the surge in demand for bioplastics in Europe can be explained by three main factors: “First, consumer attitudes in Europe are favourable toward sustainable products and packaging; secondly, the composting structure in Europe is strong and developed; and, lastly, supportive governmental policies toward protecting and preserving the environment.”
