Epoxy Europe (www.epoxy-europe.eu) has joined the European Chemical Industry Council (Cefic, Brussels / Belgium; www.cefic.org) as a speciality chemicals sector group. The association representing more than 95% of European epoxy resins producers said it wants to continue building on the sector’s commitment to achieve the objectives of the European “Green Deal”. “Fully aligned with Cefic’s conviction that the Green Deal can only be achieved through a strong industry commitment,” said chairman René Hunziker, and noted that many fundamental technologies needed for the greening of the European chemicals and plastics sectors rely on epoxy resins, for example in wind, solar and hydropower production. “As an industry, we are committed to support Europe’s ambition to be climate neutral by 2050.”
The industry grouping formerly known as Epoxy Resins Committee has also given itself a new name. Explaining the rebranding, Hunziker said, “It was very important for us to reflect our European nature as well as our commitment to European climate objectives, and we wanted it to be immediately visible, starting with our name.”
Within the framework of EU Green Deal and moving towards sustainability, the European Commission recently published an update of its industrial strategy, and the constitutional session of the High-Level Roundtable, in which Cefic has a seat (see Plasteurope.com of 18.05.2021).
