Joint venture Corpus Christi Polymers (CC Polymers) is expected to resume construction on the large PTA/PET complex in Texas / USA in May 2019, according to a recent report by local newspaper Corpus Christi Caller-Times. The PET plant would then start operations in May 2020, and PTA production would be onstream in July 2021. According to Plasteurope.com's Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), the facilities are designed for 1.3m t/y of PTA and 1.1m t/y of PET.
CC Polymers officially took over the location from the insolvent M&G USA at the beginning of 2019 – see Plasteurope.com of 18.01.2019. Construction was halted in summer 2017 because of overdue payments to contractors – see Plasteurope.com of 26.09.2017.
CC Polymers was created from its competitors Alpek (Mexico City / Mexico; www.alpek.com), Far Eastern Group (Taipei / Taiwan; www.feg.com.tw) and Indorama Ventures (IVL, Bangkok / Thailand; www.indoramaventures.com) in order to acquire and complete the complex. Each partner has a right to one third of the PTA and PET produced there – see Plasteurope.com of 27.04.2018 – with each being responsible for sourcing its own raw materials as well as independently selling and distributing the PTA and PET.
