Takeover of three labelling facilities from Avery Dennison / Production to be continued
One of North America´s leading packaging companies, CCL Industries Inc. (Toronto / Canada; www.cclind.com), is to take over all three European facilities belonging to the “Packaging labels” business group of Avery Dennison Materials (Pasadena, California / USA; www.averydennison.com). According to CCL, the purchase price is around CAD 85m (EUR 55.8m), including restructuring costs. At the same time, Avery has agreed to supply CCL with the basic materials for adhesive labels.
CCL, which employs 7,000 people worldwide, develops packaging solutions based on aluminium and plastic as well as innovative labels for manufacturers of branded consumer goods. The company recently sold four container manufacturing facilities in the US – including a production plant for plastic beakers in Plattsburgh, New York – for around CAD 90m (EUR 59m), saying these were not core businesses.
The three newly acquired plants focus on self-adhesive labels for health care, cosmetic and food applications. With a total of 325 employees in Brondby (Sweden), Randers, (Denmark) and Chilly-Mazarin (France), the business group posted sales in Europe of EUR 53.7m and EBITDA of EUR 13.1m in 2002.
