Acquisition of three label factories from Avery Dennison / Production to continue
One of the major packaging companies in North America, CCL Industries Inc. (Toronto, Ontario / Canada; www.cclind.com), is to acquire all three European plants of the packaging label division of Avery Dennison Materials (Pasadena, California / USA; www.averydennison.com) for around CAD 85m (EUR 55.8m) including restructuring costs. The three plants focus on self-adhesive labels for health care, cosmetics and food. With 325 employees in Brondby / Sweden, Randers / Denmark and Chilly-Mazarin / France, the business group posted sales in Europe in 2002 of EUR 53.7m and had EBITDA of EUR 13.1m. Under the deal, Avery will supply CCL with basic materials for adhesive labels.
CCL develops packaging solutions from aluminium and plastic as well as innovative labels for brand manufacturers of consumer goods. The company has a global workforce of 7,000. Recently, it sold four container facilities in the US for around CAD 90m (EUR 59m) because they were not considered to be core business. The sale included the production of plastic beakers in Plattsburgh, New York / USA.
