CARDIA BIOPLASTICS
Capacity reaches 100m bioplastic bags annually with move to Nanjing facility / Six additional lines to be purchased
Sustainable resins producer Cardia Bioplastics (Melbourne / Australia; www.cardiabioplastics.com) has expanded its manufacturing operations through moving to an upgraded, purpose-built facility in Nanjing / China.

The plant increases both “Biohybrid” and “Compostable” bag making capacity to 100m bags annually to meet increasing global demand for Cardia’s carry and waste bags, films for the hygiene market and custom products. The company said that a recently-introduced bag range aimed at the retail sector is in high demand and the new facility is already running to full capacity. Last year the Australian company inked a deal to supply Shanghai's residents in Pudong with its "Biohybrid" bags – see Plasteurope.com of 10.01.2013. It also has a permanent deal in Nanjing (see Plasteurope.com of 21.02.2014).

Cardia Bioplastics managing director, Frank Glatz, said that the company has committed to the purchase of six additional film extrusion and bag making lines to meet further increased orders, doubling its current production capacity. The company’s order backlog due to the factory relocation is currently being cleared and production is expected to be back on schedule in July 2014.
