Deal to supply 20% of residents in Shanghai's Pudong district with “Biohybrid” renewable kitchen waste bags / Expanding foothold in China

Following a six-month trial of its products, Australia’s Cardia Bioplastics (Melbourne; www.cardiabioplastics.com) in December 2012 announced that it had secured a USD 1.2m per year contract to supply the Pudong district of Shanghai / China with its “Biohybrid” renewable kitchen waste bags. The deal means Cardia will supply 20% of the district’s more than 5m inhabitants with its bags, and includes the potential to expand the rollout further.
The Australian group also held other waste management trials using its “Biohybrid” bags in Nanjing, Hangzhou and Yuhang – see Plasteurope.com of 21.12.2011 – and is looking to expand into other Chinese provinces as well. As part of the new agreement in Shanghai, the city district will distribute Cardia’s waste bags to a number of households, which will use them to collect food waste.
The bags are supplied from Cardia Bioplastics’ manufacturing plant in Nanjing, where the group also operates a product development centre.
