Government grants funding to plastics and composites federation / Money aimed at improving competitiveness of local plastic processing sector
The Canadian government on 11 December 2012 announced a USD 20,000 grant for the Federation of Plastics and Alliances Composites (FEPAC, Boucherville, Québec / Canada; www.fepac.ca) as part of Canada Economic Development's (Montréal, Quebec; www.dec-ced.gc.ca) Quebec Economic Development Programme. The funds are to assist Quebecoise plastics processors maintain and improve their competitiveness.
Commenting on the grant, the country’s transport, infrastructure and communities minister Denis Lebel said the funds would encourage the commercialisation of new products, stimulate sustainable economic growth and foster the creation of quality jobs. The money will also allow FEPAC to carry out its "three-pronged project", as part of which the federation plans to recruit small- and medium-sized enterprises to help it establish action plans and strategies for sustainable development, which it will then – in phase two – implement, and finally evaluate.
