BRILEN ULDESA
Integrated company in the PET chain / Materials, preforms and bottles
The activities of the Spanish company Brilen Uldesa (E-50001 Zaragoza; www.brilenuldesa.com), which is part of the major textiles and fibres group, Brilen S.A., range from the production of PET and preforms to the manufacture of blown bottles and containers. Despite the fact that the entire production chain is integrated at a single complex, all the products are also marketed independently of one another in 22 countries on four continents. Areas of application include carbonated drinks, non-carbonated water, oil, pharmaceuticals, household products and cosmetics. Production capacity for PET is 120,000 t/y. The company claims to have the broadest range of preform tools on the market. Brilen Uldesa is expanding organically and is very much future-oriented. Since 1996, more than EUR 45m has been invested, and in 2001, the company achieved sales of over EUR 110m with its 85 employees.
Brilen Uldesa sees its strength very much in its knowledge of materials chemistry, which has led among other things to the development of a new high-performance PET grade. While the existing “BST” is a multi-purpose material with stretch rates of up to 15, the new “LBS” has been designed for stretch rates in excess of this. All the mechanical data of the bottles produced with it are superior to those of the standard types despite the reduced material and energy consumption, the company claims. The gas barrier properties are also improved.
