German distributor acquires North American logistics expert Philchem / Responding to shift in supply chain flows resulting from shale gas revolution
In a deal the financial details of which were not disclosed, German chemical distributor Brenntag (Mülheim; www.brenntag.com) has acquired Houston-based Philchem (Texas / USA), a specialist in managing supply and demand imbalances using long-term relationships with suppliers. The logistics expert posted sales of about USD 162m in financial 2013.

Commenting on the purchase, Markus Klähn, CEO at Brenntag North America, said, “We expect global supply chain flows to shift as a result of the shale gas developments in North America,” adding that both Brenntag’s customers and suppliers would be able to benefit from Philchem’s ability to manage supply and demand situations. “With the help of Philchem,” he said, “Brenntag will be even better equipped to predictably move products and to ensure reliable supply.”
