Ethane feedstock agreement for Ascent cracker and PE project in USA
US oil and gas company Antero Resources (Denver, Colorado; www.anteroresources.com) has signed an agreement to supply ethane feedstock to the Ascent (Appalachian Shale Cracker Enterprise) cracker and PE project planned by Brazilian resins major Braskem (São Paulo; www.braskem.com.br). Braskem and parent company Odebrecht (Salvador / Brazil; www.odebrecht.com) announced plans to build the project in Wood County, West Virginia / USA in November last year – see Plasteurope.com of 20.11.2013.
Under the agreement, Antero would provide 30,000 bbl/day of ethane to Ascent. This represents almost half of the volume required to operate cracker, which will be located in Parkersburg, Antero said. “This agreement is contingent upon Ascent reaching a final investment decision once the multi-year feasibility analysis is completed and a construction decision has been made,” it added.
The agreement was welcomed by West Virginia's governor, Earl Ray Tomblin. "By utilising the ethane produced in West Virginia here at home, we can revitalise our manufacturing industry for decades to come," he stated.
