BRASKEM IDESA
Mexico's “Etileno XXI” hub is officially inaugurated
About two months after Braskem Idesa commissioned the first line at its “Etileno XXI” PE complex in Coatzacoalcos / Mexico (see Plasteurope.com of 11.04.2016), majority shareholder Braskem (São Paulo / Brazil; www.braskem.com) announced the official inauguration of the hub.
Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe capacity database (www.polyglobe.net) shows that Braskem Idesa – in which Pemex (Mexico City / Mexico; www.pemex.com) also holds a stake – is capable of producing 750,000 t/y of HDPE and 300,000 t/y of LDPE in Coatzacoalcos, which is also home to a cracker turning out 1.05m t/y of ethylene. The jv has ensured its ethane supply thanks to a 20-year contract with Pemex. Media reports indicate that the cost of building “Etileno XXI” came to USD 5.2 bn.
