BORSODCHEM
Window profile subsidiary to be shut down / Business environment continues unfavourable
Hungarian chemical and plastics producer BorsodChem (Kazincbarcika / Hungary; www.borsodchem-group.com) has said it will shut down its loss-making window profile manufacturing subsidiary BC-Ablakprofil(Kazincbarcika; www.pa-profiles.com) to concentrate on its core businesses and improve the group’s cost efficiency and competitiveness. BorsodChem said the processing activity is “not at all related” to its core polymerisation focus. Some 82 jobs are at stake.

Over the past seven years, Ablakprofil has run up cumulative losses totalling around HUF 2.2 bn (about EUR 8.5m). Especially in the current business environment and given the profile manufacturer’s financial situation, BorsodChem said it had been unable to find a buyer. Negotiations with the workforce are in progress, and the chemical group said it will cooperate with the local labour authorities to seek jobs in the area for the redundant employees.
