BORSODCHEM
MDI capacity to be increased by 120,000 t/y up to 2005 / Good results for first three quarters
Despite the “difficult market situation”, Hungarian chemical producer BorsodChem (H-3702 Kazincbarcika; (www.borsodchem.hu) increased sales 9.5% to the equivalent of EUR 382.5m in the first three quarters of 2003. Operating profit improved by 12.6% against the 2002 period to EUR 39.9m. The strong cash flow will help the company finance an ambitious capital spending scheme that foresees, among other things, a 120,000 t/y expansion of MDI capacity by the end of 2005. This is some 40,000 t/y more than the originally envisaged 80,000 t/y.
In the first nine months of 2003, BorsodChem produced 42,000 t of MDI, some 11% more than in the same period of 2002. TDI production totalled 44,000 t, some 26% more. At the same time, production of VCM declined by nearly 12% to 124,000 t.
