HEC awarded contract to build 80,000 t/y XLPE plant
Hyundai Engineering and Construction (HEC, Seoul / South Korea; www.en.hdec.kr) has been awarded a USD 169m contract by Borouge (Abu Dhabi / UAE; www.borouge.com) to build an 80,000 t/y cross linkable polyethylene (XLPE) unit as part of the Borouge 3 expansion project at its petrochemical plant in Ruwais / Abu Dhabi. The unit will augment the facility’s LDPE unit, allowing the production of plastics for low- and high-voltage energy cables. HEC is also providing the utilities and offsite facilities for the project.
The Borouge 3 expansion is expected to become operational in mid-2014, when it will more than double the site’s annual capacity to 4.5m t/y. In mid-2010, HEC was awarded a USD 935m contract to build power plants and outdoor facilities for the project – see Plasteurope.com of 04.06.2010.
