Expansion phase 2 kicks off as planned / Shanghai manufacturing facility inaugurated
Meeting its planned start-up date of early 2010 – see Plasteurope.com of 11.02.2009 – Borouge (Abu Dhabi / United Arab Emirates; www.borouge.com) has brought on stream its new olefin plant in Ruwais (UAE). Speaking at a recent press conference, operative business manager Roy Vardheim said it would take between 12-18 months for the world's largest cracker to reach full capacity. "Borouge II“ will triple existing capacity of Borouge's petrochemical complex in Ruwais to 2m t/y of PE and PP – for more detailed coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 22.03.2010. Borouge is a joint venture between Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc, Abu Dhabi / UAE; www.adnoc.com).
The jv also met its deadline for the opening of its new polyolefin manufacturing facility in Shanghai / China – see Plasteurope.com of 28.05.2009. The new "hub“ is expected to produce some 600,000 t/y of polyolefins.
