BORMIOLI ROCCO
New medical packaging uses Sabic's "Ultra-Clear" PP
The “Ultra-Clear” medical-grade PP developed by Saudi Arabian petrochemical giant Sabic (Riyadh; www.sabic.com) for its long-term customer, packaging producer Bormioli Rocco (Fidenza / Italy; www.bormiolirocco.com), is being used in the Italian company’s new liquid medicine dosage delivery system. The resin will be used to produce dosing cups that are more transparent and stronger than previous versions made from various grades of polystyrene and polypropylene, while still remaining compliant with strict European and US medical regulations.
Up to 20m dosing cups are expected to be made by Bormioli Rocco this year, with production likely to increase further in 2015. The Italian company in April this year announced plans to separate its activities into four different business units, which will operate separately under the existing brand name. They are Pharmaceutical Glass, Pharmaceutical Plastic, Tableware as well as Food & Beverage. Bormioli Rocco said the restructuring would streamline decision-making processes and allow each unit to respond quicker to market and customer demands. The restructuring is expected to be completed in H1 2015.
