Austrian polyolefins producer Borealis (Vienna; www.borealisgroup.com) has announced that its Kallo and Antwerp sites in Belgium were certified according to the Operation Clean Sweep (OCS; www.opcleansweep.org) scheme.

Borealis said it is among the first plastics producers to achieve the certification aimed at preventing pellet loss. The two plants were deemed compliant with the OCS scheme in December 2023 after extensive third-party audits.

The international programme aims for zero loss of plastic pellets during manufacturing, transportation, and final conversion processes, according to Borealis. It provides industry-specific guidelines to ensure the proper handling and containment, Borealis said.

The polyolefins producer contributed to the development of the standard via a successful pilot audit in 2021. Borealis implemented all OCS requirements and put into place a comprehensive set of on-site measures to prevent and respond to possible pellet spills, the company said.
