ISCC Plus certification for Ecoplast / Mechanical recycling unit becomes first in Austria with accreditation

Austrian polyolefin manufacturer Borealis (Vienna; www.viennagroup.com) said the mechanical recycling plant at its domestic subsidiary Ecoplast (Wildon) is the first such facility in Austria to receive ISCC Plus certification. Borealis acquired Ecoplast in 2018 (see Plasteurope.com of 20.07.2018).
The Ecoplast facility processes around 40,000 t/y of post-consumer plastics waste from households and industrial consumers, which it converts into high-quality HDPE and LDPE recyclates primarily for the plastics film market.

Ecoplast now joins several European Borealis sites with ISCC Plus certification, including its Finnish naphtha cavern in Porvoo, and various polyolefin operations in Austria, Belgium, Sweden, and Germany.
Borealis said Ecoplast’s certification supports its own circular economy goals, is a key component of the circular cascade model, and reflects the company’s integrated approach to closing the loop on plastics waste. By 2025, Borealis targets a six-fold increase – that’s 600,000 t – in its share of circular products and solutions.
