High clarity blow moulding PP introduced for cosmetics and baby bottles
Austrian petrochemicals producer Borealis (Vienna; www.borealisgroup.com) has introduced an addition to its high performance “Borclear” range of extrusion blow moulded PP. RC737MO has been developed for the production of high transparency bottles and is claimed to bring good processability, cost-efficiency and sustainability advantages for converters and brand owners. It is designed specifically for cosmetics and baby bottles and enables production of bottles in sizes up to two litres. It also responds to safety concerns through the elimination of bisphenol A (BPA).

Borealis said that compared with established standard products, the material’s haze value, an established indicator describing opacity, can be reduced by 25%. The polymer also offers better surface scratch resistance when compared to alternatives such as metallocene grades.
“Borclear” RC737MO can be processed by applying the usual processing settings for random PP grades, with barrel temperatures in the range of 190-220°C. Its higher melt strength enables easier regulation of wall thickness, enabling consistent processing combined with good reproducibility and design flexibility, Borealis said.
