BOREALIS
Random PP copolymer for thin walled food packaging
Petrochemicals producer Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) is to introduce the latest addition to its range of “BorPure” random PP copolymers with improved organoleptics at the “Thin Wall Packaging 2011” conference taking place from 6 to 8 December in Cologne / Germany.

“BorPure” RJ766MO has been developed for transparent, injection moulded, thin walled food packaging. Its organoleptic properties mean it will not impart taste or odour to the packaged product. The material is the product of a combination of the company’s “Borstar” PP polymerisation and nucleation technologies, resulting in a material with a tailor-made molecular weight distribution and crystalline structure bringing fast crystallisation and a good balance of stiffness and impact properties, Borealis said.
Energy savings can also be achieved thanks to the material’s flow characteristics, which enable processing equipment to run at lower temperatures than is possible with many competing materials with sufficient organoleptic properties.
The “Thin Wall Packaging 2011” conference is organised by Applied Market Information (AMI, Bristol / UK; www.amiplastics.com).
