Borealis (Vienna / Austria; www.borealisgroup.com) is highlighting its focus on advances for the pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging sector at “K 2010” with its “Bormed” range of high performance polyolefins. Two of the company’s latest developments, “Bormed” LE6601PH for flexible ampoules and SC820CF for IV pouches are on display at the show in Düsseldorf / Germany.
LE6601PH was developed to meet the healthcare market’s increasing focus on self-administered medications. Simple-to-squeeze ampoules based on the material allow users to dispense treatments such as eye, ear and nose drops without professional assistance. It is an LDPE with good transparency and is suitable for single-use ampoules for self-administered medications that do not require post-steam sterilisation.
SC820CF has been developed for primary and secondary medical pouches and is a random heterophasic PP copolymer for cast and blown film applications that combines softness with toughness, is steam sterilisable and maintains good optical and mechanical properties after retorting. It is intended as a blending component or coextrusion layer for primary pouches for IV solutions, nutrition and dialysis fluids.
