BONAZZI GROUP
Italian specialist for technopolymers / Capacities of 80,000 t/y polyamide 6
The Italian Bonazzi Group (I-37036 St. Martino B.A., Verona; www.gruppobonazzi.it), which was established in 1956, consists of two main business divisions: Synthetic Fibres and Polymers as well as Natural and Synthetic Fibres. The group, with a workforce of 3,170 employees, had a turnover of EUR 459m for the year 2000. The chemical division accounted for 70% and the textile business contributed 30% to the group´s 2000 turnover figures.
Aquafil S.p.A. (I-38062 Arco TN; www.acquafil.com) is the operational holding company of Bonazzi Group´s chemical division which is comprised of four business areas: Caprolactam & Chemicals, Aquafil BCF (bulk continuous filament for carpets and furniture), Aquafil Textile Yarns (monofilaments for the textile sector) and Aquafil Technopolymers (I-20020 Ceriano Laghetto-MN).
In the wake of the company´s efforts for more development, globalisation, integration and market diversification, the required raw materials are now supplied by two newly acquired subsidiaries which are situated in the Slovak Republic. Cenon S.r.o. produces 100,00 t/y of cyclohexanone while Aquachemica S.r.o. has a capacity of approximately 25,000 t/y of caprolactam and roughly 120,000 t/y of ammonium sulphate. Moreover, the company has another caprolactam plant in Germany which is currently under construction. These measures are part of Aquafil´s strategy of the “profit vertical chain” for margin maximisation. The raw materials are processed into PA6 at Aquafil and Julon d.d. (SLO-1001 Ljubljana). Both production sites have a combined annual capacity of approximately 80,000 tonnes.
The recently founded Aquafil Technopolymers (ATP) combines the group´s compounding activities which formerly belonged to Aquafil Special Polimers and Aquafil Polimers Due. Aquafil Technopolymers has a workforce of 130 employees and expects a turnover of EUR 72m for 2001. The company´s two Italian production sites at Ceriano Laghetto and Arco have an overall production capacity of 30,000 t/y. ATP´s core businesses are a wide variety of polyamide (PA6 and PA6.6) based compounds for moulding and extrusion (“Aquamid”, “Econyl”) which account for 83% of the company´s result. The acetal resins “Poliform” and “Ecoform” contribute another 11% to the company´s sales figures. “Econyl” is produced at a new plant in Arco from recycled textile yarn formerly produced at Bonazzi facilities. The company´s product range also includes a variety of engineering technopolymers such as PPO, PC, PBT, ABS and blends such as PC/ABS, PC/PBT, PPO/PPE. ATP has an international distribution network with production sites in Spain, the UK, France, Germany and Slovenia.
