Distribution of Dow silicone products in Hungary / Complete takeover of Biesterfeld Suisse

The “Specialty Chemicals” business unit of distributor Biesterfeld(Hamburg / Germany; www.biesterfeld.com) and Dow Chemical (Midland, Michigan / USA; www.dow.com) are extending their more than 50-year distribution partnership for silicones, which are mainly used in the fields of electronics, lighting technology, household appliances and industrial bonding. With immediate effect, the distribution agreement will be extended to Hungary – the cooperation already exists in a majority of Northern, Central and Eastern European countries.
The product portfolio includes elastomers for silicone potting compounds (“Sylgard”, “Dowsil”) as well as silicone-based adhesives and sealants. Potting compounds are suitable for protecting, for instance, electronic components or rigid and flexible LED lighting and displays.
With over 40 locations worldwide, Biesterfeld is one of the leading distributors of plastics and rubbers, basic and speciality chemicals. Most recently, the group’s plastics division, “Plastic”, which employs around 880 people worldwide and achieved sales of EUR 1.1 bn in 2019, increased its stake in its Swiss subsidiary Biesterfeld Plastic Suisse from 60% to 100%.
