Biesterfeld Spezialchemie (Hamburg / Germany; www.biesterfeld.com) is now the distributor of producer CoreLite’s (Dallas, Texas / USA; www.corelitecomposites.com) core materials in the Baltic countries, Germany and the UK. Biesterfeld's portfolio now includes “Balsasud Core”, “CoreLite PET” and “CoreLite PVC” foams for composites applications.
The foams can be used with other elements to create sandwich structures and are deployed in the marine, automotive and wind power sectors. Balsasud Core is a naturally fire-resistant balsa wood which can be utilised in a ship's hull, its interior or on deck. Balsasud “PC11 Pro-Coating” increases the balsa core’s ability to bond with laminates and cuts the amount of resin absorbed by up to 76% compared to uncoated raw balsa wood. Biesterfeld says it can now develop extremely strong, rigid components that are lighter in weight and less costly to produce.
