Norwegian EPS specialist Bewi (Trondheim; www.bewi.com) has opened a recycling plant in Norrköping, Sweden, which it said will increase its EPS recycling capacity by 40%. According to the Bewi website, it currently amounts to around 30,000 t/y, meaning the new plant has an output capacity of around 12,000 t/y. 

The location in Norrköping also offers space for future expansions. Bewi has additional plants in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the UK.

The group recycles EPS from fish boxes and insulation materials. Last year, the company collected 27,000 t of EPS waste for recycling, from which it obtains general purpose rPS, which can in turn be used in EPS production. Bewi said it plans to increase its recycling capacity for EPS to 60,000 t/y by the end of 2026.

Bewi reported sales of EUR 244 mn in the first quarter of 2024. This was 18% less than in the same period of the previous year. Adjusted EBIT fell 34% to EUR 347 mn. Of the revenue, EUR 12.5 mn was attributable to its Circular recycling division, EUR 72.2 mn to EPS production in its Raw segment, EUR 98.4 mn to the insulation business in Insulation & Construction, and EUR 93.7 mn to the packaging division Packaging & Components.
