Launch of lightweight easy-to-handle closures / Expansions in UK, Kenya and Mexico
Plastics closures producer Bericap (Budenheim / Germany; www.bericap.com) has developed a variety of new lightweight closures that are easier for consumers to handle. Christoph Thünemann, Bericap’s group director communications and marketing, said there has been a strong trend in recent years for lightweight closures that serve a functional purpose in PET containers, but are difficult to handle and inconvenient for customers.

The latest new products include Bericap "Neo 30/17", a weight-optimised closure for the well-known neck finish PET 30/25, and Bericap "HexaLite 29/13", which is available with rounded as well as straight knurls. Other additions to the range are "SnapCap 26", a hinge cap for small-sized bottles for still water, pressed on a PET 26/21 neck, and Bericap "Crystal", which is a newly designed sports cap with a transparent closure body and coloured insert.

Along with drink bottle closures, the German firm also provides a range of closures for all major neck finishes for the food market. For liquid food products, such as edible oil or vinegar, Bericap has developed a "2-Flow" closure – a shaped pouring orifice that allows customers to pour either large or small flows. A sustainable hinge closure made from TPE, called "Valve", can be separated from the PET container during recycling, and is available for spreadable foods, such as ketchup or mayonnaise.

In separate news, the company is boosting its global network too, having recently started operations at a new warehouse in Nairobi / Kenya, which is focused on supplying customers in Kenya, Uganda and Somalia. A new production site in Mexico, north of Mexico City, is also planned to open in mid-2018.

Bericap said it will be exhibiting at the "Packaging Innovations" trade fair to be held in Birmingham / UK from 28 February to 1 March 2018. The company, which regards itself as the UK market leader for beverage closures, said it will focus on emphasising its significant capacity increase in the country, both in terms of production and personnel, as well as its recent product innovations for a variety of market segments.
