SMS (Düsseldorf / Germany; www.sms-group.com) has finally sold its last remaining plastics machinery business, Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering (Gloucester, Massachusetts / USA; www.sms-k.com), to a US-based MBO team led by Mousam Ventures (Kennebunk, Maine; www.mousamventures.com). The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The company will now re-adopt its original name of Gloucester Engineering. The film machinery specialist generates sales of around EUR 100m a year and has a workforce of 280.

The two men behind Mousam Ventures are John Sharood and Dick Murphy, former managers of EGS Gauging, which makes devices to monitor plastic film and sheet during production. According to SMS, Mousam Ventures intends to expand the company with the further development of processes and products and with improved service.

SMS had previously sold its injection moulding machine business, Battenfeld Kunststoffmaschinen (Kottingbrunn / Austria; www.battenfeld.at), to Adcuram (Munich / Germany; www.adcuram.de) and its extrusion machinery business to Triton (Frankfurt / Germany).
