Helmut Winterling to head Ludwigshafen, Antwerp Verbund sites

Helmut Winterling, currently president of group research at chemical company BASF (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com), is set to take on the role of president European site and Verbund management as of 1 July 2025. The chemist, who earned his doctorate at the University of Cologne, will succeed Uwe Liebelt, who is leaving the company at his own request to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.

Winterling has been with BASF for over 17 years, five of which he spent in Shanghai. In his new position, he will be responsible for the European integrated sites in Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium, as well as the Schwarzheide site in Germany. In total, the sites employ approximately 13,700 people. Winterling will report to the head of sites on the executive board, Katja Scharpwinkel.
