EVOH film protects powders from oxygen penetration
BASF (Ludwigshafen / Germany; www.basf.com) has introduced an EVOH film to offer improved protection for its “Luvitec” polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) high molecular weight powders from penetrating oxygen from the air. PVP is an important component in the manufacture of speciality membranes and adhesives and can also absorb large quantities of water. The new EVOH packaging provides reliable protection from oxidation to the PVP powders. The company said it brings optimum sealing properties and chemical resistance, very good tensile strength, and is impermeable to gases and fluids. BASF now guarantees a shelf life of up to three years for its high molecular weight powders.

Markus Lohscheidt, global business management PVP at BASF, said: “With the new packaging, we can guarantee our customers even better and, in particular, consistent product quality. The membrane industry in particular is dependent on consistent product properties and purity.”
