Two US facilities to be shuttered / Expanding medical engineering output in California
Balda C. Brewer (Anaheim, California / USA), the US subsidiary of Balda (Bad Oeynhausen / Germany; www.balda-group.com), plans to consolidate its four production sites into two in the coming months. All four facilities are located in California. The plans call for the closure of the sites in Anaheim and Irvine, whose capacities will be moved to Ontario and Oceanside. As part of the move, the production space at the latter two plants will also be expanded.

In Ontario, Balda has rented a new 14,000 m2 production site, which will allow it to increase its cleanroom capacity from 800 m2 to about 2,500 m2. The expansion is the result of the group’s having acquired the former production site of a medical engineering group, including the equipment.
After announcing in June that one of its large customers will cease its orders for sunglasses produced in Irvine (see Plasteurope.com of 17.06.2015), Balda now intends to focus on its medical engineering business at the new Ontario site. At the same time, the company’s Oceanside plant will refocus its activities on the manufacture of technical and fashionable products. “This move strengthens our presence in the US and constitutes an investment in an attractive market segment. At the same time, the decisions are part of our ongoing consolidation process and the goal of establishing a specific focus for our US sites,” Balda managing director Oliver Oechsle said.
