New PET masterbatch compounding line starts up in Belgium / “Significant increase” in production capacity
In a move aimed at meeting rising demand for customised food packaging solutions, US plastics compounder and distributor A. Schulman (Akron, Ohio; www.aschulman.com) has added a new PET compounding line at its masterbatch plant in Bornem / Belgium. Financial details of the investment were not disclosed, neither was the facility’s nameplate capacity, although the company did say the added output “will significantly increase” its yearly PET production capacity.
Sold under the “PolyPet” brand name, the new line initially will produce additive concentrates and white PET masterbatch. A. Schulman’s general manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Heinrich Lingnau, said, “The additional PET capacity will reinforce our leading market position as a masterbatch provider for the European food packaging and BoPET film markets.”
As part of an earlier realignment of its European production structure, the compounder in 2010 redistributed about 10,000 t/y in masterbatch capacity from its Crumlin / UK site to both Bornem and Givet / France – see Plasteurope.com of 02.09.2010.
