US compounder and distributor Avient (Avon Lake, Ohio; www.avient.com) has announced the introduction of its ”Edgetek” toughened polyphthalamide (PPA) formulations, which are said to offer improved heat performance and low moisture absorption versus polyamide 6.6 for applications in extreme environments.
The impact-modified PPA is manufactured in filled and unfilled grades, and the company said they deliver exceptional structural integrity and impact resistance at high temperatures. The materials maintain tensile strength and tensile elongation properties when tested for long-term thermal aging up to 120C, Avient noted.
With a slower moisture absorption rate than PA 6.6, the compounds also help to improve durability and long-term performance, according to the supplier. They are said to suit applications such as cooling systems, housings, fuel pumps and structural components. The PPA formulations are currently manufactured in the US and sold globally.
