US compounder and distributor Avient (Avon Lake, Ohio; www.avient.com), formerly PolyOne, says it is expanding its work with compatriot company Oceanworks (Los Angeles, California; www.oceanworks.co) to help customers incorporate recycled marine plastics in their products.
The companies previously cooperated to create “reSound R” thermoplastic elastomers with recycled content, Avient said. It noted that the increased collaboration is expected to produce TPEs and thermoplastics, and the materials will use Oceanworks “Guaranteed” base resins.
“Oceanworks will also provide source validation so that brands can confidently and transparently share the story and impact of these materials,” Avient explained.
Oceanworks founder and president Rob Ianelli said, “As a leading global polymer material formulation expert, Avient will help us to further extend the usage of recycled ocean plastics to speciality formulations and applications.”
In 2020, Italy’s Guala Closures (Spinetta Marengo; www.gualaclosures.com) said it had partnered with Oceanworks to develop closures for its wine and spirits range made of plastics recycled from ocean waste (see Plasteurope.com of 23.12.2020).
