In October 2018, Avery Dennison (Pasadena, California / USA; www.averydennison.com) is planning to launch in Europe a liner made from recycled PET. The move reflects the company’s commitment to find more sustainable solutions for the labelling industry. The company says the new rPET liner is not only easier to recycle but is also made of recycled materials from carefully selected post-consumer waste.
The liner will be introduced across a number of self-adhesive constructions but because availability of suitable rPET is currently inadequate, supply of the product will initially be limited. “However, we will soon be able to scale up production significantly and we aim to have rPET as an option across all of our filmic and paper constructions,” said films global director Jasper Zonnenberg. “Conversion and application speeds are helping to drive the ongoing rise in demand for PET liners, and we have been careful to retain those benefits, while also supporting converters and end users as they make the transition from glassine [glossy paper],” he added.
