AVERY DENNISON
New PET liner collection facility added in Scotland / Recycling partnership with PET Processors UK
US labelling and packaging materials specialist Avery Dennison (Pasadena, California; www.averydennison.com) has expanded its PET liner recycling programme with the addition of a new collection facility in Scotland. Waste PET liners can now be sold directly to Avery Dennison’s recycling partner PET Processors UK (Dumfries / UK; www.petuk.com), which converts the liners into thermal forming sheets for food containers and industrial applications in the automotive and construction sectors.
"We are proud to have found a recycling partner serving the UK and Ireland who can turn waste into a valuable new product," says Stephan Reis, who is responsible for the liner recycling programme at Avery Dennison Materials Group Europe. PET Processors UK accepts quantities as low as 2 t.
Avery Dennison says its recycling programme can help brand owners achieve their sustainability goals and generate income by eliminating the need to pay for landfill or incineration. The company estimates that 1m m² of release liner waste is worth between GBP 5,000 (EUR 6,000) and GBP 8,000 (EUR 9,700). The UK government plans to raise the standard landfill tax rate to GBP 80/t, a figure groups like the British Plastics Federation (BPF, London / UK; www.bpf.co.uk) consider much too low – see Plasteurope.com of 27.02.2014.
