AVERY DENNISON
Two collection facilities added to European PET liner recycling programme / Cooperation with Morssinkhof Rymoplast
US labelling and packaging materials specialist Avery Dennison (Pasadena, California; www.averydennison.com) has opened two additional collection facilities in Europe as part of an expansion of its PET recycling programme. Waste PET liners can now be sold directly to Avery Dennison’s Dutch recycling partner, Morssinkhof Rymoplast (Lichtenvoorde; www.morssinkhofplastics.nl), either at its main plant in Zeewolde, or at collection facilities in Lichtenvoorde and Przeczno / Poland.
Quantities as low as 500 kg are accepted – far less than the current 5 t minimum quantity for waste pickup. Morssinkhof Rymoplast will reimburse brand owners directly with the material’s value, Avery Dennison said.
Stephan Reis, who is responsible for sustainability at Avery Dennison Materials Group Europe, said the company’s programme reflects its commitment to facilitate easy and effective recycling of PET release liner into rPET granules. “Not only is sustainability an increasingly important element of a brand, the owners of brands can generate significant income from liner recycling by eliminating the need to pay for landfill or incineration. A 5m m2 of release liner waste is currently worth anything from EUR 16,000 to EUR 26,000. Our goal is to link brand owners to the largest number of recycling facilities and make it as easy as possible for them to realise these returns,” he added.
