ATP Adhesive Systems (Wollerau / Switzerland: www.atp-ag.com) has acquired UK-based adhesive tape converter BDK Industrial Products (Ipswich; www.bdk.uk.com) as part of its strategy to expand internationally. No financial details were disclosed.

The acquisition comes barely two years after private equity group Bregal Unternehmerkapital, the investment arm of Cofra Holding (Zug / Switzerland; www.cofraholding.com), bought ATP in 2019. Bregal had said back then that it would expand ATP’s business globally.

With APK and BDK retaining their names and management, the acquisition is expected to strengthen the market position of both companies. Bregal added that ATP would now be able to enter additional fast-growing end-markets, also noting that BDK excels through its cleanroom converting capabilities for complex applications mainly for the healthcare market.

“Our acquisition of BDK also underlines ATP’s strong ambition to expand internationally and further diversify its offering,” said ATP CEO Daniel Heini. According to the Swiss firm, the two companies complement each other, given its own R&D and coating expertise as well as BDK’s significant process know-how and reputation in the healthcare market.

With its production based in Mihla / Germany, ATP employs a staff of around 270. Its Switzerland-based R&D centre focuses on single and double-sided industrial adhesive tapes. The company is reportedly the market leader in high-performing water-based adhesive tapes with customers in the automotive, construction, electronics, medical and general industries.

BDK has around 90 employees. In 2017, it added its third state-of-the-art class 10,000 cleanroom.
