ATHLONE EXTRUSIONS
Irish sheet manufacturer acquired by Swiss firm Schweiter Technologies
Schweiter Technologies (Horgen / Switzerland; www.schweiter.ch) has completed the acquisition of Athlone Extrusions (Athlone / Ireland; www.athloneextrusions.ie) for EUR 48m (see Plasteurope.com of 10.07.2017), as announced on 3 July. The acquisition is to strengthen Schweiter's transport & industry division in its 3A Composites business.
Athlone manufactures coloured opaque multi-layer plastic sheeting, which is primarily used by thermoformers that produce parts for automotive vehicles, sanitary ware, office equipment and furniture. The company has a workforce of 175 employees, and generated sales of approximately EUR 62m in 2016.
The Irish sheet manufacturer has a factory space of around 14,000 m². Its machinery pools consists of 14 sheet and film lines, all with co-extrusion or multi-layer capability, and a masterbatch and compounding division containing seven compounding extruders. Plant capacity is currently 28,000 t/y. The company has sales offices in Ireland, the UK and the Netherlands, and exports to over 40 countries worldwide.
