Large fire erupts at Austrian PU processor in Weitra
A fire broke out in the hall of PU processor Asma (Weitra / Austria; www.asma.at) in the morning hours of 22 February. About 110 firemen battled the blaze, local media report, adding that one was left injured.
Reports indicate that the fire was caused by a barrel containing magnesium, which caught ablaze. Fearing an explosive gas reaction, the firemen had to use a special extinguishing agent to control it.
Asma has so far refused to comment on the incident. There is thus no estimate on the damages caused and whether or until when its output will be compromised. The company’s 120 employees produce PU coatings for barrels, reels and wheels, as well as technical moulds.
