Turkish PET recycler Aserpet (Gaziantep; www.aserpet.com.tr) plans to enter PET sheet roll stock production and has acquired the necessary machinery from US high-performance sheet extrusion machinery specialist Processing Technologies International (PTi, Aurora, Illinois; www.ptiextruders.com). The sale, financial details of which were not disclosed, is the US machinery maker’s first in Turkey and was completed by its local agent, Plastteknik (Istanbul; www.plast-teknik.com).
The new machine will allow Aserpet, which so far had focused on recycling PET flake for the packaging industry, to enter the packaging market itself. No further details regarding annual output or targeted end markets were available.
Founded as Aser Tekstil in 1971, the company initially produced different types of yarn. Then in March 2007, the group decided to commence PET flake recovery and built a 15,500 m2 site in Gaziantep, just north of Turkey's border with Syria, where it established its 6,240 t/y facility, called Aserpet.
