ASAHI KASEI
Glass fibre-reinforced PP for automotive and home appliance industries
Asahi Kasei (Tokyo / Japan; www.asahi-kasei.co.jp) has introduced a family of glass fibre-reinforced PP compounds. "Thermylene P11" compounds possess "unprecedented strength", which the company says offers opportunities for thin-wall injection moulding of interior and exterior automotive parts, such as door modules, centre consoles, load floors and instrument panels. For appliance applications, Thermlyene P11 is suitable for heat-exposed dryer components such as lint trays.
Vive Apte, manager of Polyolefins R&D at Asahi Kasei, says the new PP grades are being evaluated at European OEMs and tier suppliers, and the company has received "strong interest" in the material. Thermylene P11 is available with a glass fibre content of 30%, 40%, 45% or 50%.
