The manufacturer of flexible insulation materials for plant insulation and technical foams, Armacell (Luxembourg; www.armacell.com), is expanding its presence in Europe. To this end, the company has taken over the plant of Knauf Ceiling Solutions (Grafenau, Germany; www.knaufceilingsolutions.com) in Münster, Germany, which was shut down towards the end of 2020.

The site will serve as a centre of excellence for flexible elastomeric foams and as the main production location for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the company said. Among other things, elastomeric insulation materials such as sheets and hoses of the Armaflex brand are to be produced there.

Armacell did not provide any information on the purchase price, the amount of investment or the planned production capacity when asked by Plasteurope.com. The existing Armacell plant in Münster currently employs around 580 people. In the medium term, the acquisition of the plant is expected to create around 30 new jobs.

With more than 3,200 employees worldwide and 25 production sites in 17 countries, Armacell generated a turnover of EUR 677 mn in 2021 with its two business units, Advanced Insulation and Engineered Foams – this is almost EUR 90 mn more than the turnover in 2020 (see Plasteurope.com of 03.08.2021).
