Ultra-flexible PPA-based resin launched / Extension of Rilsan HT range
Arkema (Colombes / France; www.arkema.com) has expanded its “Rilsan HT” (high temperature) range of polyphthalamide (PPA)-based resins with an ultra-flexible grade. The company says the flexibility of the new grade is close to that of PA extrusion grades.
Rilsan HT resins are suitable for replacing metal in high-temperature tubing applications and are up to 70% based on the renewable non-food-crop castor oil. With the new ultra-flexible grade, Arkema says it has lowered the modulus from 820 MPa to 500 MPa and improved the thermal resistance, with service temperature for a given service time increased by up to 10°C compared with the existing range.
The chemical resistance at high temperatures and the cold impact properties of the ultra-flexible PPA grade make it a suitable alternative to fluoropolymers or elastomers (ETFE, PTFE and FKM) in demanding industrial applications such as flexible high-temperature pneumatic and hydraulic tubing, the company adds.
