PPA-based injection resin launched / Extension of Rilsan HT range
Arkema (Colombes / France; www.arkema.com) has added injection resins to its “Rilsan” HT product range, designed to replace metal in high-temperature applications.

The company said the Rilsan HT range is now the first complete polyphtalamide (PPA)-based product line suitable for all process technologies, ranging from extrusion to blown or injection moulding. The resins are up to 70% bio-based.
Rilsan HT injection resins are suitable for metal replacement in fuel system applications requiring low permeation, low swelling and high thermal resistance. The suitability of the injection grade for quick-connectors and other temperature resistant parts also extends applications to powertrain components.
Arkema claims that Rilsan HT injection resins are the only PPA-based injection resins with processing characteristics similar to those of aliphatic high performance polyamides. With mould temperatures close to those of PA 12 and PA 11, the resins can be processed on standard injection-moulding equipment using conventional water-cooled temperature control, and can be processed in injection moulds designed for PA 12 and PA 11 thanks to similar mould shrinkage properties, the company says.
Unlike conventional PPA-based resins, Rilsan HT has very low moisture uptake, which means it is easily stored and requires no supplemental steps before processing, adds Arkema.
The injection resins can be glass fibre-reinforced or formulated for conductivity, and can be spin-welded with aliphatic high performance polyamides.
