AMIANTIT
GRP “Flowtite” pipes specified for 25km water supply pipeline / EUR 12.5m contract awarded by Swedish municipal supplier
Amiantit Norway (Sandefjord / Norway), part of Saudi pipe, PU, fibreglass and polymers producer Amiantit (Dammam; www.amiantit.com/en), has signed a SEK 115m (EUR 12.5m) contract with Swedish municipally-owned water supply company Sydvatten to deliver “Flowtite GRP” pipes for a 25km water pipeline.
Sydvatten supplies more than 900,000 Swedish residents in Skåne County with drinking water and the contract is one of the largest GRP pipe contracts for water supply awarded in Europe, according to Jarle Hausberg, managing director of Amiantit Norway. The companies plan to start the installation of the pipeline, in diameters of DN1400mm and DN1600mm, in the summer of 2015.
Markus Janson, Amiantit Norway’s sales manager for the Swedish market, said: “Sydvatten wanted a non-corrosive pipe material that could provide a lifetime of more than 100 years. While steel and concrete pipes often have issues with corrosion, research shows that composite pipes have a unique durability.”
Amiantit has recently invested over USD 10m in glass fibre composite pipe research in Norway – see Plasteurope.com of 03.03.2014 – as part of the company’s aim to focus even more on R&D, including the technology used in its “Flowtite GRP” pipes.
