Marketing PerfoTec's laser perforation system technology in Europe / Improved film permeability allows longer shelf life
Packaging solutions provider Amerplast (Tampere / Finland; www.amerplast.com) has signed a deal with PerfoTec (Mijdrecht / The Netherlands; www.perfotec.com) to market the latter’s equipment across Europe. PerfoTec’s technology allows companies to measure the respiration rates of fresh produce by calculating the required film permeability to enable salads, fruits and vegetables to achieve optimal respiration inside the packaging, thereby guaranteeing a longer life cycle. It does so by means of a laser perforation system that adapts the film’s permeability. Under the deal, Amerplast will market the technology alongside its own flexible packaging film.
Borge Kvamme, Amerplast CEO, said the collaboration will help Amerplast achieve its goal of becoming a leading pan-European packaging company. “The unique PerfoTec respiration and micro perforation technology will allow us to expand our current product offering and to provide our customers with a sustainable innovative alternative to their current packaging systems for fresh produce,” he added.
In 2013, PerfoTec already entered into a strategic alliance with flexible packaging converters Exopack (Spartanburg, South Carolina / USA) and Kobusch (Warburg / Germany; www.kobusch.com) to expand the latters’ offerings in Europe and North America (see Plasteurope.com of 10.04.2013).
Headquartered in Finland, Amerplast produces high-performance flexible packaging for food and non-food applications at its manufacturing plants in Finland and Poland. The company also has sales offices in Sweden and Russia. Its 420 employees sell products across more than 20 countries.
